Monday Movie Review

Just a few reviews this week. I hope you find something you like and if you have a recommendation, I'd love to hear about it!

"Ace of Hearts" - This movie is about a police officer, Daniel Harding (played by Dean Cain), who makes his canine partner, Ace, the main priority in his life. But when Ace "faces euthanasia after being falsely accused in a mauling incident" (as per Netflix), Daniel and his daughter come together to try and find out what really happened. This movie wasn't awful, but not one I wanted my 3 and 2 year old to watch. When the bad guy in the movie gets "mauled," the visual isn't pretty and towards the end he stabs the dog with a shard of glass. The movie is rated only PG but I didn't like either part, so I wouldn't recommend it for the whole family to watch.

"Saving Sarah Cain" - I liked this movie and my SIL who has read the books said that while the movie doesn't really follow the books, it is good in and of itself. The movie is about Sarah, who following her sister's death, takes in her Amish-born children. She tries to adjust to her new life, but it's quite the trial. I liked the movie and the ending was good. I would recommend it.

"Moondance Alexander" - I love Don Johnson and he's in this, so I was intrigued to see what it was about. The story goes that Moondance, an outcast at her school, finds a horse that she falls in love with. With help from the horse's owner, Moondance learns to jump with the horse and enters a big competition. Cute family film, one for everyone to see. I will say one thing though, don't the storyline to flow really easily. A few questions were posed and not answered, but nothing to get hung up over. A good one to watch.

"Rescued" - This is one of those movies made by the same LDS people who made "Singles Ward" and "Beauty and the Beast: A Latterday Tale." Typical story really; three colleagues get stranded on an island. The one girl is really interested in the cute and successful guy and not so much into the other guy who goes to church. After their time on the island and going home, the girl realizes that the first guy isn't as great as he made himself out to be and the churchgoer is the one she wants to be with. While this was kind of cheesy, it was ok for a one time watch.

"Peaceful Warrior" - First off, this movie had some crap in it that I didn't like. But I did like the concept. The movie is based on the real life Dan Millman, who has written many inspiring books. The concept is pretty much, making the impossible, possible. This concept has helped me to change my perspective on many things and while the movie wasn't the best, you could check out the book.

"Bee Movie" - I saw previews for this and decided it was one I wouldn't put on my list. But it ended up being on our list of movie deals we got through a local theater, so we gave it a try. And you know what? It was much better than I had anticipated. Jerry Seinfeld is the main character, Barry B. Benson, and when Barry finds out that humans are "stealing" their honey and making money, he decides to file a lawsuit. This movie is really cute and I would recommend it as a family movie.

"The Queen" - I picked this up from the library because a friend mentioned it was good and she was right. This movie was about how the British Royal Family and their Prime Minister handled Princess Diana's death. I'm not sure how much of it actually happened the way it was depicted, but there were many scenes from the actual incident. I remember when I first heard about Princess Diana's death. It brought me to tears then and it brings me to tears now. It's really sad

"Roman Holiday" - My neighbor let me borrow this and it was really good. It stars Audrey Hepburn as a European princess, and Gregory Peck as a tabloid journalist. Hepburn's character is under a lot of stress and she "runs away" if you will and finds herself in the company of Peck and his photographer. Not realizing they know who she is, and the men trying to get a great story, they have quite a few adventures. The movie was cute and I would recommend it. With two great actors like Hepburn and Peck, you're bound to make a great film. :)

The only movies you reviewed, that I had ever even heard of were Roman Holiday (the one I recommended!) and The Bee movie, which I still haven't seen. Thanks. Maybe we'll have to try a few others until our Netflix runs out in a week or so!

The only one I've seen was "The Queen". I thought it was pretty good, but the whole thing is so depressing! Great reviews!
