Eye appointment

I feel like I should stop going to doctors, they always seem to find something wrong with me as of late. It is a good thing, better to catch any problems early right? Well today I went to the eye doctor to make sure my eyes were just ducky for more contacts. Our insurance covers us for every two years to get an eye exam but despite it being awhile since I'd been, I didn't think there would be any problems.

But I knew there was as soon as my dr started saying things like "oh my" and "oh dear" and "oh my word." I felt all warm and fuzzy let me tell you. Well apparently the contacts I have been wearing were smothering my eyes and weren't allowing enough oxygen in. My eyes have been really irratated lately and it's made it harder to see, now I know why. I have 12 ulcers in my right eye. *cry* They aren't infected yet so he put me on some antibiotics to clear them up. He said they were little scratches all over my eye. I didn't even know contacts could do that.

Well on top of this lovely news he tells me my astigmatism is back in my right eye and it's the oblique kind, which is one of the bad ones. Now I have to have a special kind of contacts. I went from under $20 a box to $50-$60 a box. Luckily he said there was a rebate of $100 if I order a 6 month supply, which is fabulous news, so I actually only pay about $30. So I did have some good news, yay!

Ohh, I'm sorry! :-( Your poor eyes! I think irritated eyes is just about the worse pain there is. :-(

I hope the new contacts do the trick for you; sorry they're more expensive. Sounds like a deal to me, but I don't do disposables -- I have hard contacts with an awful prescription.

Didn't you do laser surgery or was that another Michelle?

Not me, I couldn't do lasik unless I was put under. I don't know how people can stay awake to do that. It would scare me to death! lol How do you like your hard contacts? I don't even know the difference between hard and soft.

Oh, that stinks! I really need to go to an eye dr soon too, I only have one contact left and I think I need a stronger prescription. But I don't think I want to go to your dr, too much bad news lol.

Well, I've never had soft contacts actually, but when I did a report on the differences for a biology assignment in 10th grade, I learned that hard were harder to adjust to but easier to care for. That might have gone out the window now that there's disposables -- I did that report, like, twelve years ago now! Yipe!

Hard (technically "gas permeable" lens) were tough the first years I had them but now they're just fine. I could never leave them in overnight or anything, but they are comfortable enough.

And I never, ever thought I'd be brave enough for LASIK or something -- but man, the payoffs are so good, and my brothers have both had it ... I'm gonna get brave and do it sometime.

Geez, that hoovers!
What kind of contacts were you wearing?
I've tried both the gas permeable before. They are thicker, so you feel them every time you blink. I suppose you get used to them after a while. It's nice that you can just spit on them and put them back in your eye if you had to. Can't really do that well with the soft.
I heard they also help your eyes not to change too fast.
I was just in to my dr for my yearly and she said my eyes looked really healthy. I'm using the Sofmed 55. I have astigmatism in my left eye, but they say it's not bad enough to change my contacts to help it, but it's bad enough to bother me, especially in night time driving :(
Hope your eye gets better!
