Monday Muse

Do you think about friendships? I do, quite often. When I hear the word I immediately associate it with trust. How can you be friends with someone if you don't trust them? Nowadays, it seems trust isn't easily given out and I realize it can stem from past experiences.

This is true of my own life. When my parents divorced, I was told everything would be ok and it wasn't. When I was in 5th grade and moved to a new city, I had friends tell me they would keep in touch and they didn't. When I was married, I had high school friends tell me nothing would change and things did. Every time we move, I watch friends stay behind.

After all of that, you'd think my perception on friendship was grim. But I've come to realize something. There's a saying to the effect that you have friends for every season. When I think about it, I agree. Sure I've had a lot of friends go out of my life, but I've had a lot come in to. Sometimes I get down on the fact that so many leave but I try to remember that when those good friends are there at any given time, it's for a reason and I should be grateful to have met them at all.

The only other aspect of friendship that I think about is having a best friend, other than my husband. While I'm not sure I quite have that, I'm blessed to have the friends I do. I can't imagine going through life without any.

I'm thankful for the friends I have been able to keep in contact with despite where we live or how busy our lives are. :D
